ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 t sugar
  • 3/4 t salt
  • 1/2 cup oil or substitute 3 oz apple sauce and generous 1/4 cup oil
  • 2 T milk
  • 4 Macintosh apples, peeled and cored & thinly sliced, about 4 cups
  • 2 T cornstarch
  • 1 T cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup sugar or substitute 3 oz Splenda blend
  • Directions

    To make apple filling:

Combine 2 T cornstarch, 1 T cinnamon, and ¾ cup sugar (can use less sugar if don’t want as sweet). You may substitute 3 oz. of Splenda blend ( for less calories ). Mix with 4 Macintosh apples –peeled, cored & thinly sliced. Let mixture sit while you prepare crust .

    To make shell:

1 ¾ cup whole wheat flour

    1 1/2 tsp. sugar

    3/4 tsp. salt

    Whip together using fork:

1/2 cup oil or substitute 3 oz apple sauce and 1/4 cup oil

    2 T milk

Mix milk mixture in with dry ingredients. When well blended, pat into a ball shape & place on waxed paper. Cover top and bottom of dough with wax paper and roll out about 10-11 inch diameter. Place on pizza pan lined with foil.

Brush inside of crust with beaten egg white.

Pile apple mixture in center leaving a perimeter of 2 ½ inches to fold up to form edge. Brush turned up crust with egg white in order to help hold the folds.

Bake about 20 minutes in a 425 degree oven or until apples are tender. May be served warm or at room temperature.
