ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 stick vegetable shortening (can substitute 1 cp butter, softened)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate chips)
  • Directions

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

    Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat vegetable shortening plus 1-2T water (hot water makes it easier to mix, but don't add if using butter), granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.

    Bake for 9 to 11 minutes on ungreased baking sheet. Move to cooling rack after 2 minutes to cool.
